The Heat is On!

Posted on: June 14, 2011

Whew! Stepped outside lately? All I have to say is… the heat is on in Brevard County!

What are YOU doing to stay cool this week? With temps in the 90’s forecasted all week, most of us probably need some new ideas on how to keep cool!

Here’s my top 10 list… I’d love to hear yours!

My Favorite Ways to Beat the Heat

1. Hit the Beach! My favorite spot is anywhere in Melbourne Beach, uncrowded and unspoiled! Plus, the ocean is nice and refreshing… enjoy it!

2. Eat some ice cream! Mmmmmm, my favorite food… any excuse to indulge will work for me!

3. Take a dip in my pool – easy and convenient.

4. Swim laps at Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach. They have a great pool with lap lanes for exercise, or open lanes for playing. Admission is $2 for IHB residents, or $3 for everyone else.

5. Enjoy a drink at Sand on the Beach. At the corner of A1A and Ocean Ave in Melbourne Beach, Sand on the Beach has an upstairs bar with amazing views of the ocean. You can sit inside (in the air-conditioning!) and still have the benefit of enjoying the ocean vistas – perfect!

6. Paws on Play at Brevard Zoo.  For the little ones, Brevard Zoo has a water play area in their Paws on Play area. Super fun, be sure  to check it out this summer!

7. Go for a sail! Being out on the water gives you the benefit of a nice sea breeze. If you don’t own a boat, you can always rent one at Performance Sail and Sport on US 1 or 321 Boat Club on Eau Gallie Blvd.

8. Invent a new smoothie recipe! I love making my own smoothies, and it’s always fun to try new combinations. Just freeze some fruit (bananas or berries are my favorite), add some milk or juice, maybe a little yogurt, and whip it up in the blender! My absolute favorite combination is frozen bananas, a healthy scoop of peanut butter, and light chocolate soy milk… yum, yum, yummy!

9. Visit the water slides at the Fee Avenue pool in Melbourne. I believe there are water slides at the Palm Bay Aquatic Center and the Cocoa Beach Country Club too. Small admission fees, big fun!

10. Catch a movie. Those movie theaters always have the AC cranking… take advantage, bring a sweater, and enjoy a new flick too!
