Battle of the Bridges Triathlon… This Weekend in Melbourne, FL!

Posted on: September 29, 2011

SWIM, BIKE, RUN! It’s that time again! One of our area’s great athletic events, the annual Battle of the Bridges Health First Triathlon, will be held this weekend on Sunday, October 2nd. And for the kiddos 6-12 years old, the “Salty Dog Kids Duathlon” will be held on Saturday, October 1st. All of the festivities take place at Pineapple Park in Eau Gallie.

The Battle of the Bridges Triathlon offers a scenic course with gorgeous river views as participants compete in each of the three sports of swimming, biking, and running. The race starts with a swim in the Indian River, which is usually pretty calm, flat, and still warm on race day. From there, racers transition onto the bike and head north over the Pineda Causeway, down Tropical Trail, then south back over the Eau Gallie causeway, hence the name of the race, “Battle of the Bridges”. And to finish off the event, the run course loops through downtown historic Eau Gallie, with plenty of spectators lining the course to cheer on the hundreds of participants.

Two separate distances are offered for this race; Sprint distance (.25 mile swim, 15.9 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) and Olympic distance (1.5k swim, 43k bike, 10k run). Both offer a challenging but manageable course, plenty of support from volunteers, and a pure adrenaline rush from start to finish. The Battle of the Bridges Triathlon is ideal for everyone, whether you are a first-timer just trying to finish, or if you are a seasoned triathlete, trying to set a personal best.

Even if you won’t be competing in this year’s race, it is a fun and exciting event to witness! The race starts at 7:15 am, so grab your coffee and your beach chair, and grab a seat near Pineapple Park. Who knows, maybe you will be inspired to sign up for next year’s race!

I believe race organizers are still taking volunteers, so if you want to be involved in the event without actually sweating it out on the race course, check the event’s website for information on how to volunteer: Battle of the Bridges Health First Triathlon.

Best of luck to everyone racing this weekend!
