Brevard Zoo

The Brevard Zoo is located on Wickham Road (all the way out by I-95) in Melbourne, FL. This zoo is not huge, but it is absolutely wonderful and worth the trip! Visitors walk on a raised wooden boardwalk that winds its way through the zoo, which is landscaped with natural Florida foliage, providing a nice amount of overhead shade. The zoo has five different areas including Africa, South American Jungle, Australia/Asia, Wild Florida, and Paws on Play for the children which includes a petting zoo and “play lagoon” (bring the bathing suits!). For an additional fee, you can go on a guided kayak tour through the Africa exhibit, or rent a paddleboat and cruise through the zoo’s restored wetlands. The Brevard Zoo also has a new feature called “Treetop Trek” which is an outdoor adventure of aerial obstacle courses and zip lines.

The Brevard Zoo has many “interactive” exhibits, including the opportunity to feed the giraffes, visit the aviary and feed the lorikeets, throw food to the fish and the birds, and experience the feeding of the zoo’s alligators and crocodiles. You can plan to spend anywhere from 2 hours, to almost all day at the Brevard Zoo. The snack stand has a huge variety of food and drinks, and the gift shop has some great books, stuffed animals, clothing, and more.

I highly recommend visiting the Brevard Zoo; it is definitely one of my favorite “things to do” in Brevard County!
