Kennedy Space Center

A visit to the Space Coast would not be complete without a trip to Kennedy Space Center. The Visitor Complex at Kennedy Space Center is oriented to families, and offers visitors the chance to experience space-related exhibits, learn about the history of the space program, and tour NASA’s restricted areas which are used during space shuttle and rocket launches.

You can spend an entire day touring and experiencing NASA’s Kennedy Space Center launch headquarters, specifically, the launch and landing facilities, interactive simulator “rides”, hands on experiences, film presentations, IMAX theaters, and so much more. The 2.5 hour guided bus tour allows visitors to see the launch pads, the Vehicle Assembly Building (which is the largest building in the world!), the “crawlers” and the “crawlerway” which are the giant vehicles and the path that take the shuttle to the launch pad. You have the option to get on and off the bus as you please, as it stops at the launch pads at the LC-39 Observation Gantry and the Apollo/Saturn V Center, which houses a 363-foot Saturn moon rocket. The bus tour is included with the price of admission.

Be sure to visit the Shuttle Launch Experience, which is a simulator ride that lets you vertically “launch” into space and orbit Earth aboard the space shuttle. Another attraction is Astronaut Encounter, where you can hear first-hand from a veteran NASA astronaut what it is like to experience space travel and live in space.

Other features not to miss include the Astronaut Memorial, the Children’s Play Dome, the Rocket Garden, Shuttle Plaza, which is a full-size orbiter replica, and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

Before you finish your day at Kennedy Space Center, be sure to visit The Space Shop for some freeze-dried ice cream and other exciting space-themed souvenirs.

Kennedy Space Center is open every day except for Christmas, and the hours are 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. Check the website for admission prices and schedules: Kennedy Space Center.
